Week-9

RPO self-critique & learning arduino

RPO Self-Critique

After the RPO I made a list of things that I thought were missing or could improve in my RPO. Or could be used as notes for dissertation. These were some things I observed while writing the RPO and after submitting it. As notes of what could be taken care of during dissertation. I also want to refer to more readings maybe because some of the areas in the research are still a bit unorganised in my thoughts, like the connection between each pillar. For now I thought I should also think about what I want to do for studio work. And I wanted to explore the arduino for which we have a workshop this wednesday, 9th October 2024.

Notes from self-analysis

Computation In Design, Lab Workshop

Computation in Design, Lab Workshop was mostly an overview of all the things we had learned in Level-1 and Level-2. And the list of tools structured according to its purpose.

I wanted to do Hardware, which is - exploring with Arduino. I had an image of a pop-up book in my mind. But when I was looking at the servo motors and the sensors it did bring up a question in my mind - “How am I gonna structure it to be in a book?” I know that I will find the answer as I experiment however something still didn’t fit and I was now suddenly not able to imagine a final outcome.

In the workshop slides we also came across an activity - pre-mortem . Basically we have to imagine that our project has fallen apart and analyse what could be the cause(es). Like after death there’s a post-mortem. I liked the idea of doing this activity as I believed it will also help me in analysing what steps I should take further.

Arduino Workshop

This week, we had a workshop where we got to experiment with Arduino. Zarer, I and Tammy worked together to learn the basics of the Arduino. It was a bit overwhelming at start but I did realise something while doing this. It's that my outcome may not be completely non-digital. At the end, arduino does require some coding and it has to go from the laptop.

I was actually hoping that practicing arduino in the workshop, I may get an idea as to what I want to do moving ahead, but it didn't work that way. I was already starting to question "will I be able to do this?"
