Week-4
Progress & Pause .2
Simplifying mechanism
This week began with a lab consultation with Andreas where I learned how copper tape can be used for interaction and the objective was to understand different types of button craft. One - small buttons that can be used as triggers. Two - can be customised with craft based on needs (fig). Following this, I was advised to try and incorporate this mechanism on my pop-up. And also to use crocodile clips (fig)

Incorporating the mechanism
I was still a bit stuck on detecting a page-flip hence I tried to do so in this experiment. First I just put the copper-tape on the mock-up that I had made, however due to the pop-up, the page wouldn’t completely touch in order to trigger activity on screen (fig). I created a separate tool (tool A) to insert on the pop-up book (fig- diagram of the tool) and (fig). Due to the use of crocodile clips, the copper tape on the tool could not entirely touch each other hence the tool needed to be pressed. The tool could use an additional layer inserted, in order to have GND and input press against each other. This could ensure a smoother experience when the users are going through the book.

Finishing the storyboard
The visuals need a lot of improvement and I could still explore how to implement some traditional methodologies like hand-painting or block printing for the final outcome. Considering that these traditional techniques are quite time-consuming and I was worried I won’t be able to build my artefact in time I decided to digitally sketch everything and print it later. However during the consultations this week Andreas advised to see and try if I can implement block-printing the outcome. I am not sure how to do that yet so I also booked a lab session with Andri and Vincente for their guidance and perspective on this.

Roundtable
I attended the round table thinking that it would be good to have a perspective from students and lecturers who have not seen my project. The lecturers in the roundtable were Yasser and Lim Shu Min. The feedback from the roundtable was quite similar to the feedback from this week that the concept needs to be developed more. Additionally, Yasser mentioned that the visuals currently look quite kiddish which is fine if that’s my target audience otherwise the visuals could be more mature. As a project, my project is fine however it could use a lot of developments at this stage. In this roundtable I also realised that it is important to have an objective for a roundtable in order to gain more specific insights.
