Week-1
Carousel book, Visuals & Feedback clarity
Book Structure
By the end of last semester, I had found a reference for how the book structure could be for my artefact - a star book also known as ‘Carousel Book’ (reference - The art of pop-up by J.C.Trebbi). I made a small prototype of the book structure to understand how it is made.

Week-1 Consultations
During our first week we had to make a small presentation on any updates or developments that we may have for our project. I had taken the workshop to learn Mata ni Pachedi as I wanted to implement the visual style on my artefact, so to show an example I tried using the visual style on a part of the narrative that I had used to make my prototype during last semester - “the sight of the hare chasing the dog”. It turned out to be harder than I thought. The traditional painting requires maximum detail while I was worried that if I used too much detail in the storyboard or the visual, it could seem a bit crowded.
Clarity on prototype-1
Recapping - previous semester I crafted a prototype that I thought was comprehensible. However, the feedback was an eye-opener. Although at this stage I still have not absorbed the feedback while I know what it says. It's like - I know what is missing but I don’t seem to be aware about it when I plan further for an artefact. I had a discussion with Andreas about the feedback where I understood what made the narratives and the prototype feel disconnected - having the narratives printed separately and vaguely in text with a lack of a narrative tone.
Thoughts
for the visual style, the first thing I need is finalised narratives and a storyboard to move further with the visuals on the interactive book. Having a visual style and final illustrations is important as it also helps me conceptualise interaction in the book. Current focus areas are reflected in fig. Additionally, what I need is different book references before finalising any book structure, as currently I do not have a concept plan for the interaction design.
