Week-8
Preseting progress
Table set-up
Before the set-up started I was a bit worried. I didn’t think I had been doing well. I have been working really slow this semester and I was worried the second prototype that I made wasn't good progress. However, Andreas mentioned that it is good that the prototype is there and that I have simplified the mechanisms used in the storybook. However, using a fabric just to use it didn’t seem like a great idea. So far there doesn’t seem any purpose for using fabric. Additionally, just user-testing with 6 participants is not enough and it would be great to document when the participants interact with the storybook to be able to provide evidence for key observations.
I personally feel quite motivated after this consultation and feel a bit optimistic about the progress further. But I wanted to try and experiment with different mechanisms so I was surfing the internet when I found this video of a small project using a reed switch. I originally wanted to use it according to the first concept plan I sketched (fig) however I thought I should experiment with it first and then try to apply it to my narratives. This approach helps me work with the technical work first and gives me a straightforward direction to what I can iterate the experiment to. More importantly it saves me from having to face any challenges or problems after having started with building the book. Right now I think that once I figure out how I want to use the mechanism it doesn’t seem so stressful to build the book.

Thoughts
In term-1, there was a lot of work backlogged, for example catching up to my Creative Process Journal, putting it on a website. Last term I faced some problems with the website layout so I started this week by fixing the layout on my website. And further I found myself a bit blank. I was not sure where to move forward with my work. We had to set up tables later this week. During week-6, I planned that further I will be using fabric on my storybook, I will be experimenting already but I think I was struggling a bit to come out of worrying about dissertation and focus on the studio work now.
